Application Process

Step 1: Find a program (or two!) that you are interested in

Consider your goals for study abroad and the various factors that will make this experience meaningful for you.  Stop by the Study Abroad Info Center in Lippincott Hall, Room 105, Monday - Friday from 9 AM - 5 PM for walk-in advising. Peer advisors will help you find a program that meets your academic objectives, professional goals and personal interests. Once you identify a program, they can make an appointment for you to meet with a program coordinator or financial advisor.

Step 2:  Meet with your academic advisor

Talk to your academic advisor about how to include study abroad within your curriculum.  Ask about classes in your major that you are able to complete abroad, as well as those that might be restricted due to course content, licensure requirements, etc.  Ask about when might be an ideal time to study abroad within your degree.  Make a graduation plan.

Step 3:  Meet with your study abroad program coordinator

Once you have identified some good program options, you can meet with a Study Abroad program coordinator to learn more about each option and determine which program would be the best fit for you. You can book an appointment online or stop by the Study Abroad Info Center in Lippincott Hall, Room 105 or call our office at 785-864-3742 for assistance.  Make sure to complete your Advising App before your appointment.

Step 4: Begin your online application

All students apply to study abroad through our online system called JayhawksAbroad.  You can begin an application to study abroad by clicking the "Apply Now" button on the website for the program you have selected. You can also come by the Study Abroad Info Center and a peer advisor can walk you through the application process. After you begin your application, you will see an electronic checklist within your JayhawksAbroad online account that will guide you through each step.

Step 5: Complete your application

Below is a list of the typical documents that you will need to complete for your study abroad program application. Requirements will vary by program.  After an application is created, you will see a checklist of specific requirements for the program you have chosen.
